Name: Gregg Geocaching
Screen Name: Gregg 00SS
Birth State: CT
How did you get into geocaching?
Think my brother mentioned it to me several years ago. We’re both
avid hikers and he does surveying work for the Bureau of Land Management,
so think the GPS aspect is what made him aware of it, even though
he does not cache.
What's the meaning behind the screen name?
I own a 2000 Camaro SS.
Do you cache alone or are you part of a team? On my own
How many caches have you found and how many have you hidden?
0 hidden and 182 finds thus far,
Have you cached in other states or countries?
Been a member on geocaching.com since ’04 and only started caching
this year. I was in the military when I joined and missed out on
getting a lot of great caches throughout the entire US, including
Alaska, as well as several countries. Now I have to flip the dime
to get them, lol.
Besides geocaching, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Spare time, what is that?
What kind of wildlife have you encountered while geocaching?
Unfortunately, I haven’t come across much of anything even in the
most remote locations.
What advice would you offer new geocachers/hiders?
For hiders, micros in the woods suck!!! For new cachers, don’t give
up and get down on yourself because of several DNF’s. I’m still
a fairly new geocacher but the more hides I find the better my geosenses
get and am able to better determine where a hide probably is in
a given area. Also, if you’re like me and had an antique GPS, invest
in a new one, it’s worth it’s weight in gold as far as geocaching
is concerned.
What do you say when muggles ask what you are doing?
I ask them if they have ever heard of geocaching, which they haven’t,
and briefly describe what it is all about.
What is your favorite cache container?
.50 ammo can. They’re a lot easier to spot than a micro, especially
in the woods, and allow you to drop TB’s.
What was your most memorable caching find/experience?
Probably the first one I did with my daughter. She’s 9 and we don’t
live together. We’ve done a total of 4 together now but her mother
says she really liked it and wants to do more, so that’s pretty
cool.
Urban hides, love em or hate em?
Little of both. Most urban caches are micros and fairly easy to
find and don’t require a hike. Downside is many mugglers depending
on location.
Are you planning on attending Cacheapalooza 4 in December?
Absolutely
And what would you like to see more of at the event?
This is my first geo event so not sure I’m one to speak on what
I would like to see more of. I’m just hoping for a ton of caches.
And finally, Garmin or Magellan? How about Delorme?????
