The Cachers

Full Name: Steve Huskisson

Geocaching Screen Name: McPhenius

Birth State: Florida (Broward County)

Martial Status: Married

How did you get into geocaching?
Co-worker stopped a suspicious vehicle while working and turned out to be a pair of geocachers. Suspicion dispelled. Two new geocachers as a result. I already had a handheld GPS for kayaking, so I was ready to hit the ground running.

What's the meaning behind the screen name?
I think it was a name of a baby in a Pepsi commercial during a Superbowl many years ago. Just kind of sounded neat and stuck. But gets misspelled too often :( I’ve used it for years on forums, etc.

Do you cache alone or are you part of a team?
Alone, but sometimes with fla030. I would love to go out with a group, but I work nights and a second full time job during the afternoon.

How many caches have you found and how many have you hidden?
Since September 4th, 141 found / 35 hidden in two months. Ok, I got hooked.

Have you cached in other states or countries?
No, but I was just in California a week prior to discovering geocaching. Fortunately I will be back there on business beginning of 2011.

Besides geocaching, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Fishing, kayaking, spending time with my sons and anything outdoors.

What kind of wildlife have you encountered while geocaching?
Alot, mainly Orb Weaver spiders due to the time of night caching. I live literally against the Everglades so I have plenty of wildlife there daily.

What advice would you offer new geocachers/hiders?
Keep going. It’s addicting and fun!

What do you say when muggles ask what you are doing?
Fortunately, 141 caches in past two months, maybe one muggler. I told her about geocaching and showed her the micro container I had just found. She asked “is that where people hide drugs?” New approach, she thought it was really neat and was going to Google it.

What is your favorite cache container?
Anything creative and thought out by the cache owner.

What is the strangest thing you have ever found in the cache?
Dental floss and a comb

What was your most memorable caching find/experience?
I’m still new, so probably my 100th find.

Urban hides, love em or hate em?
I live in south Florida, kind of stuck with them so I enjoy them. I’d love to hike in the wilderness and find them, but right now Markham Park is about the best I’ve had for that.

Are you planning on attending Cacheapalooza 4 in December?
Yep, with kayaks.

And finally, Garmin or Magellan?
Right, Delorme PN-40. But ok, I do like the Garmins and own one of those too.
