The Cachers

Full Name: Anne Garman

Geocaching Screen Name: Nurse Nanna

Birth State: Texas...but for only 2 weeks...then and since, Michigan, where my heart lies

Martial Status: Married

How did you get into geocaching?
A newspaper article, a borrowed GPSr and a teenager who knew how to turn it on!

What's the meaning behind the screen name?
It's a song that my camp staff started singing to me when they found out I was going to be a grandma for the first time. If you get me at the right moment sometimes I'll sing it....but be warned...I cannot carry a tune!

Do you cache alone or are you part of a team?
I am alone, but frequently cache with friends, and prefer to do so.

How many caches have you found and how many have you hidden?
Found 2710, Hidden 13

Have you cached in other states or countries?14 states and 2 countries

And if so, how do those caches compare with caches you have found here?
Caches in Utah and Nevada were different, no trees or woods like Michigan. Florida is scarier to me because of the different environment..though I'm learning quick!

Besides geocaching, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Kayaking, camping snowshoeing

What kind of wildlife have you encountered while geocaching?
Eagle, fox, deer, evidence of bear and moose, fish (kayak caches, remember?), turtles, skunks, ginorumous spiders (got a great story about that one!), humans and muggles and college students

What advice would you offer new geocachers/hiders?
Wait until you have been caching for some time, don't be in a hurry to get one out there, learn first through experience and others will enjoy your hides much more!

What do you say when muggles ask what you are doing?
That I am a scientist researching the quality of...fill in the blank....leaves, grass, paint chips exposed to weather...and/or working on a scavenger hunt..and Im losing!

What is your favorite cache container? Well camo'ed.

What is the strangest thing you have ever found in the cache? A mouse

What was your most memorable caching find/experience?
“Not Gilligan's Island”, it was my first real step out of my comfort zone. I had to climb out of my kayak a dozen times in muck up to my thighs. Owner is still laughing about my log. I was a mess and scared to death..and loved every second of it. I smelled so bad that I was not allowed back in the house til I hosed down outside.

Urban hides, love em or hate em?
Much prefer woods and water...but I'll go after anything I can. It's fun to go out in the winter with a group and look for caches that don't involve 2 miles in 3 feet of snow!

Are you planning on attending Cacheapalooza 4 in December?
Yes, and I still can't believe it! Hope that I can hold my own on getting around. Nervous about caching Florida even though I've done quite a bit now...terrified of snakes!

And what would you like to see more of at the event?
Perhaps you could send the snakes away to another place while I am there???

And finally, Garmin or Magellan? Definitely Garmin! I have an Oregon 550t. Love it!
