The Cachers

Full Name: Jim Beurrier

Geocaching Screen Name: Butterdish

Age: Some say older than dirt but 55

Birth State:
Indiana, but I didn't like it there so we moved to NJ
when I was 6 months old so I consider myself from NJ.

Martial Status:
Married to the best thing that ever happened to me 34 years ago.

How did you get into geocaching?
Jellyfish from MI and PalmCityExplorers from Florida both are coworkers, got me hooked

What's the meaning behind the screen name?
Beurrier is French for Butterdish ... Botervlootje in Dutch.

Do you cache alone or are you part of a team?
I usually cache alone but love to go out with others when I can.

How many caches have you found and how many have you hidden?
Today 17 Feb 2009 1,515 found and 76 hidden with one in the cue for publication.

Have you cached in other states or countries?
And if so, how do those caches compare with caches you have found here?
I've cached all over the world. Australia, Japan, Canada (3 provinces) and a whole lot of US States. I love the diversity of the world and caching gets me to places that I would not normally go to. It never ceases to amaze me that I can go somewhere I've never been and find something in the woods or under a lamp skirt.

Besides geocaching, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Riding my mountain bike and more geocaching

What kind of wildlife have you encountered while geocaching?
Wild Boar, Snakes, Squirrels, Chipmunks, Spiders, Dear, Foxes and TeamAlamo

What advice would you offer new geocachers/hiders?
Just do it! Carry around Geocaching brochures so when people ask what you are doing you can hand one to them while you explain the game. It also helps when you run into law enforcement :-)

What do you say when muggles ask what you are doing?
I give them the "Come to Geocaching" lecture and hand them a brochure.

What is your favorite cache container?
Ammo cans and Bison Tubes

What is the strangest thing you have ever found in the cache?
I was caching in NJ a while back and back then I would put in a Beaded Keychain into every cache I found. As I opened the lid I found one of my keychains in it. That was pretty cool that one had found it's way there.

What was your most memorable caching find/experience?
Check out my log at GC113D0. All my buddies have heard that story.
My favorite would be GCT397 in Clarion PA.

Urban hides, love em or hate em?
A smiley is a smiley. I've also found Ammo cans downtown, very creatively hidden. Lakeland FL.

Are you planning on attending Cacheapalooza 4 in December?
And what would you like to see more of at the event?

I don't think I have a choice, I have to go. My name is on the coin :-)

And finally, Garmin or Magellan?
What the hell is a Magellan ... I have three Garmins. An E-trex that I started with, a GPSmap C60sx that I use now and a new Colorado 400t that I'm not too sure I like yet. I've loaned my E-trex to a friend who is just getting hooked.
