The Cachers

Full Name: Mimi & Marc Barrison

Geocaching Screen Name: M&M Melted

Birth State: NY

Martial Status: Married

How did you get into geocaching?
We saw an article about Geocaching in a local newspaper (Newsday) and decided to give it a try.

What's the meaning behind the screen name?
M&M stands for Mimi and Marc. When we first started caching, our screen name was M&M NY, but when we moved to Florida, we "melted", hence M&M Melted.

Do you cache alone or are you part of a team?
We are a team

How many caches have you found and how many have you hidden?
As of 2/20/09, we found 4231 caches and we have hidden 174 caches

Have you cached in other states or countries? Yes

And if so, how do those caches compare with caches you have found here?
The elevation on Long Island was similar to Florida in that it was flat. We also cached in mountainous and rocky places such as the hills of upstate New York and the rocky arid desert outside of the Las Vegas strip. However, Florida is the only place where we have enjoyed everything from swamps to gorgeous forests and striking palmetto prairies (not to mention the Gulf Coast and Atlantic beaches even in the winter time)

Besides geocaching, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Digital photography (Marc), Kayaking, reading, any number of cultural activities, traveling

What kind of wildlife have you encountered while geocaching?
Alligators, wild pigs, bears, armadillos, domesticated carnivores (aka dogs), river otters, dolphins, loggerhead turtles, gopher tortoises, toads, herons, egrets, sandhill cranes, ducks, geese, peacocks, etc.

What advice would you offer new geocachers/hiders?
It's really not about the numbers…it's about having fun and exploring the world!

What do you say when muggles ask what you are doing?
If they seem open to it, we'll tell them about geocaching. If not, we'll just say we lost something and are still looking for it.

What is your favorite cache container?

Ammo can

What is the strangest thing you have ever found in the cache?
A tube of silicon caulk

What was your most memorable caching find/experience?
There are so many…but we really loved caching in Red Rock Canyon while visiting Las Vegas, NV

Urban hides, love em or hate em?
It depends. Generally prefer caches that involve being out in nature, hiking or yakking. A creative urban cache that brings us to a cool location is always fun…otherwise, not a big fan.

Are you planning on attending Cacheapalooza 4 in December? Yes

And what would you like to see more of at the event?
You all do such a great job – can't think of anything!

And finally, Garmin or Magellan? We are Garmin folks
